Exotic Shorthair cat
– the sweet-natured plush pet
The Exotic Shorthair is one of the most popular purebred cats, combining the charm of the Persian with the practicality of a short coat. This sweet, affectionate and playful breed is the perfect companion for anyone looking for a calm, cuddly, curious kitty.
Origin and appearance
The Exotic Shorthair was created in America in the 1960s by crossing Persians and American Shorthairs. The goal was to create a breed that retained the character and appearance of Persian cats, but had a coat that was easier to care for.
Appearance
- Round head, broad skull
- Large, expressive eyes
- Short nose (brachycephalic type)
- Compact, stocky body
- Dense, short, plush coat
Character and behavior
The Exotic Shorthair cat has a balanced, calm nature, but is also playful and curious. They get along well with other pets and children, affectionate but not intrusive. They do not have excessive energy levels, making them ideal apartment companions.
Maintenance and care
- Coat Care:
Although the Exotic Shorthair's coat is short, it is quite dense, so it requires regular brushing - it is recommended to brush it 1-2 times a week to reduce shedding and prevent hair ingestion.
- Eye Care:
Due to the short nose, it can often water, and the eye area should be cleaned daily.
- Nose Cleaning:
Flat-faced cats are prone to nasal congestion, and need to be cleaned gently from time to time.
- Ears and Claws:
Their ears should be checked and cleaned regularly, weekly if necessary, and the claws should be trimmed approximately every 2-4 weeks.
